GMO stands for genetically modified organisms. GMO has been widely used in scientific research and production of goods. A more specifically defined type of GMO is a "transgenic organism." This is an organism whose genetic makeup has been altered by the addition of genetic material from an unrelated organism. For instance, the tomato is known to be one of the most highly modified food. “Fish tomato” utilizes DNA from fish to elongate the natural rotten process of tomatoes, helping to improve taste and environmental stress tolerance. In this video, I composed a series of patterns that are made from different phases of rotten tomato (it was a little visual experiment I made for fun, which has not been used in any other classes)(see next page).
The reason why I chose to use a female character as a subject of storytelling was that in Ecofeminist study, primarily based on Karren Warren’s theory, there are important connections between the oppression of women and the oppression of nature. For example, females are more likely to be associated with the words”Mother Nature,“ caring, gentle etc. The butterfly is another important semiotic. It is not only pointing to ecofeminism but also serves as a symbol of transformation, which, in the end, leads to the chaos and maniac mentality.
The overall style and aesthetic are inspired by Vera Chytilová's Daisies.
